11th Most Wanted Mexican Dies in Battle

11/07/10 | by Ethnic Embrace [mail] | Categories: Politics, International, Top Stories

Drug lord Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen of the Gulf Cartel (aka Tony Tormenta/Tony the Storm), was killed Nov. 5, 2010 with three of his workers in a battle with the Mexican military in Tamaulipas state just across the border from Brownsville, Texas.

US authorities had offered a $5m reward for information leading to his arrest after receiving a drug trafficking charge. He was the US's 11th most wanted Mexican fugitive. His brother Osiel Guillen just received 25 years in a US, Texas prison facility. The Gulf Cartel was Mexico's second most powerful cartel and they even had around $2.5m (USD) reward towards the arrest of Tony Tormenta.

What does this mean for the US and Mexico?
