Day 30 - Getting Back in Shape After That Pole Dancing Class

Day 62
Since my latest health dilemma, I've done something crazy to my neck/beck. I've waken up plenty times with a crooked neck but this time the pain has stuck around for about a week now. I've been stretching and massaging and frankly nothing seems to be helping but driving (with my left arm) definitely made it worse. For this reason I've been reluctant to lift weights and I certainly do not need too much cardio. I'm not even certain stretching is a good idea but I am doing so with great care and minimal effort. I've noticed almost every day this new year I've been banged up. This is totally my year and so i guess the universe is getting it all out of the way early :-)

I've found a self-defense place in DC giving away a weeks work of classes...for FREE. Check out GT TV's calendar for details. I really wish I could get some in-home training. Not that I am embarrassed by my recent health issues, but since then I've noticed a huge difference in my ability and attitude towards working out. I mean yes I was bed-ridden for 5 days and in that time I left my apt once to go to urgent care and so my muscles were pissed at me at day 4. By the time I was able to walk around and stretch, omg you should've heard it. Yes. You should've heard my tissue ripping in my legs as I stretched. I could not understand this because I made sure to drink plenty of fluids but when you're in the fetal position for days what do you expect? I'm feeling much better and ready to get back into it but I think I need some professional attention especially since this sharp neck pain is killing me.

I must admit my diet has been off, off, off. My roommate came back and in doing so we began to compete for food. You see I have a special roommate. She eats EVERYTHING. She wants to try what's on your plate (even if it is a very small amount) and then eat what's on her plate. If I don't eat when she eats then when I come back the chances of it being there is very slim. I cannot blame her. I eat no more than 3 meals a day. Normally 2 and a snack. However, she on the other hand doubles that because she participates in activities that increase her want for food...yeah...

...as I turn my head to notice the sunrise omg it hurts...

Christmas on a Budget

Christmas is approaching quickly and you're scrambling to buy the perfect gift(s) for that special someone(s). This year will it be jewelry? Fancy perfumes? A designer sweater? A new appliance? Better yet a new car? Decisions, decisions.

...

Why not give a true expression this year? All of the things you can buy will likely go unappreciated with time so why not make it count? This year I believe everyone should support the Occupy movement and the idea of non-consumerism. This is in fact the only way to satisfy all parties ;-) You get to keep extra poker chips and spend on something more important. Foreign imports and independence will decrease. Government will be shocked by such bravery. The richer will be a little less richer and everyone will learn a valuable lesson: We the people...

On Thanksgiving day, I taught my nieces the meaning of the Occupy movement. They are 9 and 10 and old enough to understand the social injustices of the 99%. Before showing up on Xmas with a homemade gift I had to explain there was a bigger reason behind Titi Lou not coming home with a dozen new toys for them. In the end the girls appreciated me being part of a bigger fight and they too wanted to help. We agreed that no matter what I got them I would not be spending money on getting it but that they would love it. How difficult could it be, right? I make jewelry (sprinkleofglitter.com) so there's an option. I have dozens of unused nail polishes sitting in a box right now. I've just inherited quite a few children's books. I probably have too many stuffed animals as it is. I am great in Photoshop and these kids still love coloring so I smell a coloring book or crossword puzzle book. For the adults I had already purchased some things but they all came from a thrift store. My favorite chain is Unique right now. Great finds!

So, this year, I am giving my wallet a break and sending a message to the higher ups and teaching my family the meaning of being part of something bigger. I encourage you all to do the same. Either way enjoy your Christmas and try to get back to what it's really all about: family.
